One More Brazil Photo

One last photo.  I really like this one because it almost (but not quite) shows how remote we were in the valley.  This was taken at around 7:30pm.  Remember, in the Vale do Paty there are 8 or so houses in which you sleep.  The houses are occupied by descendants of Paty settlers, and there are only a few left.  This was my first day in the valley.  At 5:30pm we arrived at the house, where I was shown to my room (supplied with a candle and a few matches), and then kicked the soccer ball around with one of the kids.  He had a mohawk (as do most kids under the age of 15) to mimic Neymar (the current star of Brazilian soccer).  One of the kids brought me a beer (for 3 bucks), which I thoroughly enjoyed.

I took this shot right before dinner at 7:30.  I used very little zoom, and you can see the outline of "Castello," which we would hike up the next day.  My lodging for the night was right at the base of Castello.  This photo reminds me of how remote (and pure) my surroundings were.  It was truly a game changer to be in such a place - complete immersion in nature (well, sort of).
